Flight Centre surprised at ACCC appeal

Company News

Flight Centre Travel Group Limited (ASX:FLT) says it is surprised and disappointed the ACCC will go ahead with a further appeal in relation to alleged breaches of the Trade Practices Act.

The so-called breaches related to a period between 2005 and 2009 when the ACCC contended it was wrong for Flight Centre to insist airlines could not offer prices directly to customers that were lower than those available to the travel company.

Earlier this year Flight Centre had won a Full Federal Court Appeal on the decision which awarded the travel retailer $11 million in costs and interest.

The ACCC is now taking the battle to the High Court with Flight Centre saying it will vigorously defend its position.

Flight Centre reported a net profit of $256.5 million for the 2015 financial year.
