Western Areas defies commodity slump

Western Areas Limited (ASX:WSA) has reported a 37.5 per cent increase in net profit to $35 million for the 2015 financial year.
 
The miner says the result is exceptional given the challenging nickel price environment at present. 
 
Net cash increased $60 million to $70.4 million, putting the company’s balance sheet in its strongest ever position. 
 
In financial year 2016 the company will settle the acquisition of its Cosmos Nickel Complex and increase overall investment in exploration. 
 
The company will pay a final fully franked dividend of 4 cents per share, taking the year’s total to 7 cents per share.
