Cochlear appoints Chris Smith new CEO

Cochlear Limited (ASX:COH) has appointed the head of its North American operations, Chris Smith, as its new CEO.

The bionic ear manufacturer says Mr Smith will take over from Chris Roberts from September but come on as deputy chief executive from July.

Dr Roberts has served as Cochlear’s CEO since February 2004 and will step down in August this year. 
 
Cochlear says its incoming chief will bring a deep understanding of the company, its customers and hearing healthcare professionals. 
 
Cochlear reported a net profit of $71.37 million in the first half of the 2015 financial year.
