Telstra Corporation Limited
(ASX:TLS) has warned of an IT security breach at its recently acquired Asian telecommunications and services provider Pacnet.
Australia’s largest telco says the breach occurred prior to Telstra taking ownership of Pacnet and Telstra was only made aware of the breach once the deal was tied up in April.
The breach allowed third party access to Pacnet’s corporate IT network through a SQL vulnerability that enabled malicious software to be uploaded to the network.
Telstra says it took immediate action to protect the security of the network once it was informed of the breach and has since rectified the security vulnerabilities.
Telstra reported a record net profit of $2.11 billion in the first half of the 2015 financial year.
