Rio paid more than $7B in taxes last year

Rio Tinto Limited (ASX:RIO) says it paid $US7.1 billion in taxes around the world last year.

The global miner has advised the majority of its taxes and royalties were paid in Australia, coming to $US5.6 billion. 

Rio also paid significant amounts of tax in Canada, Chile, America, Mongolia, South Africa, France, Guinea, Singapore and the UK. 

The company says its taxes paid report is evidence of its commitment to taxation transparency and it continues to be a major contributor to the economies of its host nations.

Rio Tinto reported a net profit of $7.92 billion in the 2014 calendar year.
