Westpac Banking Corporation
(ASX:WBC) has committed to expanding its Indigenous intern program.
The bank has inked a deal to recruit at least 40 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander university student interns each year for the next decade.
The contract has been reached with CareerTrackers Indigenous Internship program and is the largest commitment to the program by an Australian corporate.
Westpac says the intention is for as many of these interns as possible to take on permanent roles upon graduation and secure careers with the bank.
Westpac’s net profit gained 12 per cent to $7.62 billion in the 2014 financial year.
