Storms cause spill at Paladin uranium mine

Company News

Paladin Energy Limited (ASX:PDN) says damage from a high-intensity storm caused a spill at its Kayelekera uranium project in Malawi earlier this week.

The Africa-focused miner says the site remains secure following protection and remediation procedures which occurred after discovering the damaged tank.

A sampling programme to analyse water from within the local stream system was also initiated to confirm no contamination occurred.

In addition to notifying the ASX of the spill Paladin Energy says it has formally advised relevant Government of Malawi authorities of the incident.

Paladin Energy reported a net loss of $413.5 million in the 2014 financial year.
