Koonenberry Gold (ASX:KNB) has commenced a diamond drilling program at the Enmore Gold Project in northeast New South Wales, with 5-7 holes planned for approximately 2,000m. The drilling is targeting broad zones of high-grade gold mineralisation at the Sunnyside Prospect, where historical drilling returned significant results, including:

  • 174m at 1.83g/t gold from surface, including 100m at 2.34g/t gold and 3m at 8.86g/t gold from 172m to end-of-hole
  • 119m at 0.99g/t gold from 140m, including 69m at 1.38g/t gold from 184m
  • 100.5m at 1.29g/t gold from 107m to end-of-hole

The Sunnyside Prospect has undergone historical exploration, with deeper drilling in recent years confirming extensive gold mineralisation. The majority of deeper holes ended in mineralisation, indicating potential extensions at depth. Gold is associated with a northeast-southwest trending shear zone, with arsenopyrite mineralisation in monzogranite host rocks and later quartz-stage veins that cross-cut the shear zone at a high angle trending northwest.

Koonenberry is the first company to follow up on these high-grade intersections since they were drilled. The current program is designed to test the Sunnyside Prospect and other high-grade gold occurrences in the district. Additional exploration, including soil sampling, is planned to advance other targets to drill-ready status.

The Enmore Gold Project contains 39 known hard rock gold mines and a significant number of alluvial workings along approximately 30km of major structures. Gold mineralisation is orogenic mesothermal in nature and is largely controlled by mylonite zones along northeast-trending faults. Mineralisation occurs in sheared and altered monzogranite, sediments, and discrete quartz veins. A later overprinting gold event introduced mineralisation in quartz veins developed in brittle en-echelon fracture zones.
