Midday: Aus shares trading flat

Following mixed leads, the Australian share market opened higher and is now trading flat as the euro zone crisis weighs on the market.

The S&P/ASX 200 index is 6 points up at 4,073. On the futures market the SPI is 4 points higher.

Company news

Prima BioMed Limited's (ASX:PRR) CEO Martin Rogers has stepped down from his role but will remain on the board as a non-executive director. Current senior executive Matthew Lehman will assume the role from September. The cancer treatment company says the changes are intended to position the company for the next stage of growth. Shares in Prima BioMed are trading down 3.03 per cent at $0.16.

At its annual general meeting this morning, dual listed Guinness Peat Group PLC (ASX:GPG) resolved to keep Sir Ron Brierley on its board, voted in by a slim margin. 74-year-old Sir Ron stepped down as chairman of the investment holding company in 2010. New Zealand's Shareholders' Association said earlier this month, Sir Ron was a negative influence on the group and recommended he not be re-elected. Shares in Guinness Peat are trading up 4.05 per cent at $0.39.

Best and worst performers

The best performing sector is Health Care gaining 77 points to 9,021. Shares in CSL Limited (ASX:CSL) have risen 1.53 per cent and trading at $37.76. Shares in Acrux and Sigma are also stronger.

The worst performing sector is Telco Services, falling 8 points to 1,213. Shares in Telstra Corporation Limited (ASX:TLS) have fallen 0.84 per cent, trading at $3.53. Shares in TPG Telecom is down while SingTel is flat.

Gold and the dollar

Gold is trading at $US1,562 an ounce.
The Australian dollar is buying 97.6 US cents.
