Whitehaven shares rise following quarterly results

Coal company, Whitehaven Coal (ASX:WHC) has announced coal sales have increased by 10 per cent for the 2018 March quarter.

Meantime the company saw its coal production rise by 3 per cent when compared to the previous corresponding period.

The company paid an interim dividend of 13 cent per share in March.

Whitehaven says demand for thermal coal during the quarter was strong as Northern Asia had cooler weather than usual.

Shares in Whitehaven (ASX:WHC) have jumped over 3 per cent to $4.42 following the update.
